ECOPOLIS: Fair(er) Futures Festival – Brussels
Ecopolis celebrates its 10th anniversary, and we do so appropriately as an eco-festival. During this edition, we turn concerns around climate and nature into commitment. We do this with Rebecca Solnit’s words in mind: It is not too late! Just now is the time to listen to diverse voices and innovative practices, to formulate just solutions, to make radical choices, to formulate a better future.
In this way, Ecopolis shows that things can be done differently. And the art of imagination is central to this. Because only if we imagine a better future together can we realise it. In other words: Hope needs action!
Ecopolis creates a platform for forms of dialogue between authors, scientists, doers, activists and artists about responsibility and commitment, across generations and national borders.

Here is already a glimpse of the programme:
We will start at 11am with a keynote by Mikaela Loach, the Jamaican-British author and activist, followed by a panel discussion including Anuna De Wever. From 13h, you can choose from plenty of fascinating talks. For instance, Chris Keulemans will talk about his latest book Verzet (Resistance) and enter into a conversation with Hind Fraihi and Nozizwe Dube. By the way, do you know what artivism is? – Isabelle Fremeaux from France will tell you. If you are also curious about how we can strengthen our democracy, then definitely come and listen to British author Erica Benner. And yes, hopeful policies do exist, Sophie Howe comes to tell how Wales decided to completely redirect the budget provided for car infrastructure towards sustainable mobility. And ECOPOLIS’ rich programme does not stop there. We also talk about food and energy. Because in her book Manger les riches, French journalist Nora Bouazzouni shows how (healthy) food is also a class struggle. And the historian Jean-Baptiste Fressoz provokes the energy debate with his argument that renewable energy will not stop climate disruption, for that you have to turn the whole economy around.
